We wore our swimsuits like they were our uniforms for life, stayed up late, slept in, ate ice cream, fed the zoo animals, ditched the training wheels, and loved every second of it. But, the time has come again to say farewell to the long, lazy days of summer. I’m almost in tears typing that. I realize that I’m in the minority when I nearly fall into depression over school starting. I’m told by song parodies and Facebook memes that I should be celebrating the kids going back to school, but I’m just sad. While the return of an actual routine will be good for all of us, I’m really going to miss them. I’ve always been kind of a loner, but these two boys and their daddy – I’ll happily spend all my days with them (especially if those days find me barefoot and covered in sunshine).

Despite my own selfish sadness, I’m very excited for my boys next adventure in their education. They are both so ready to be back in the classroom. We are so fortunate to be able to send our kids to a great school with wonderful teachers. I know I’ve wrote about it before, but I can’t stress enough how amazing teachers are. Teaching is truly one of most noble professions. They are providing my children with experiences I couldn’t give them alone. Seeing the teachers’ smiling faces on the first day of school takes the sting out of the end of summer. We’re looking forward to a great school year!
