While April showers bring May flowers, March rain is just cold. We only lasted a few minutes outside. Playing in the rain sounded like such a fun idea until they realized it was only 38 degrees.

The gloomy weather had us all feeling a little down. It was a hard contrast to the nice weather we had a week ago, but hey, that’s Spring…and typical Iowa weather. I’m trying to embrace the seasons – at least from a photographic standpoint. I’d rather it be sunny and 75 everyday, but there is beauty to be found even on the dullest day.

Maybe this makes me a mean mom, but I really like images of my kid’s sad faces. They are real and raw. No fake smile, no posing, just a “wearing their heart on their sleeve” emotional expression. Their pouty faces remind me we can’t truly appreciate the highs without feeling the lows. Our rainy days help us treasure the sunshine. Tough days make the good days that much sweeter, loss reminds us to appreciate what we have…you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life, the facts of life – yep, that just happened and now it’s stuck in your head. My point is just try to enjoy the ride and look for the good light even on the dark days.

The rain froze later that night and this was the view out my kitchen window. I should have been sleeping, but shiny things get me every time.
