The Iowa State Fair. I hadn’t been since I was a kid, and it was time to introduce my boys to fried food on a stick and people watching. My childhood memories of the fair are filled with farm exhibits, seeing the largest boar and bull, carnival rides, and being really sweaty…90 degrees and humid is an average Iowa August. The fall-like weather we had for our fair visit this week was actually a nice surprise. We fed the animals, rode ponies, ate red velvet funnel cake & corn dogs, and walked for miles – never once breaking a sweat. I’ll take it. My boys can now say they’ve experienced one of the country’s largest state fairs, and I’ll be dreaming of binge eating funnel cake until next year.
