I am thankful for their innocence.

With the broken state of our world, especially after the recent acts of inconceivable evil, I find it hard to sit down and blog about the happiness in my life. My heart is so heavy, and I don’t even know where to begin with my thoughts on the Syrian refugee crisis and the horrific attacks in Paris, Beirut, and Baghdad. It is all so terribly overwhelming.

My theme for M4H project 52 this week was “soft”. As I snapped shots of my boys snuggled in warm, soft blankets, I was flooded with a sense of their innocence. I am so thankful for their blissful ignorance. We are so incredibly fortunate to live in a place where my children do not know war – not first hand. I’ve talked to them about what’s happening in our world, but I’m lucky to be able to shelter them from the harshest details. No child should be denied a peaceful, happy childhood, yet so many children around the world know how it feels to be ripped from their homeland. They’ve heard gunfire, seen death, and know fear. The awful stories of war told by the media, the scenes I shield my boys from, are their reality. I cry the hardest when I think of them.

My children’s innocence would not be possible without the sacrifice and service of our military men and women. The root of my thankfulness this week lies with them.

I pray for Paris. I pray for all those affected by senseless acts of violence carried out by uneducated/brainwashed extremists with no empathy for the human race. I pray for comfort for those who need it most, and I pray for hope…
