Every Sunday, my husband puts on his Raiders t-shirt and sits down to watch the game. He doesn’t do anything but watch the game. It’s his time. He’s less stressed and ready to take on the week after cheering for his team. Win or lose, he needs his time.

This time of year, with the pressure of buying the prefect gift, decorating for holiday parties, and the countless other tasks we assign ourselves on top of our already busy schedules, it’s easy to burn out. We forget to feel the love when we are still awake at midnight wrapping gifts and addressing holiday cards. We are often overwhelmed and irritable during what is supposed to be the most joyous time of the year.

Love your family, take care of yourself, and do your best. It’s so important to remember we are all only human, and we are each given 24 hours in a day. Even if every gift is a flop, your cards don’t make it on time (or at all), and you burn and Christmas ham…it doesn’t really matter. The sun will still come up tomorrow and life with go on.

Take a moment for yourself. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy the silence before the kids wake up…or if you’re like me, a glass of wine after they go to bed. Don’t lose sight of the reason for the season, and realize that the greatest gift you can give is your time. However, your time isn’t as easily given when you’re spreading yourself too thin. So, watch the game, listen to music, take pictures of the kids enjoying holiday traditions. Do something you love and do it often. All aspects of your life benefit when you take the time to take care of yourself.

Take a minute and enjoy that Christmas cookie – you’ve earned it!
