Photographs are so much more than a piece of paper. They are tangible memories. They tell stories, take you back, and stir emotions. They are priceless family heirlooms. I have mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again – I owe my love of pictures to my mom. She documented our lives and instilled a love of photography in me. I’m so thankful for that.

After the kiddos opened their gifts from Santa Christmas morning, we drove down to Mom and Dad’s and I spent part of the afternoon in her “picture room.” That’s right, she has an entire room dedicated to pictures. The walls and shelves are covered with frames, and scrapbooks and albums fill the drawers. It’s fantastic. Stories fill your head without reading a single word. I pulled out a collection of my favorites from years past to take a collage photo for M4H theme for the week, “reflections”. The nostalgia is overwhelming while I look back at some of the people who have shaped me throughout my life. What a wonderful feeling.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to snap pictures at your family gatherings. Take pictures of your children doing everyday things. Moms – get in front of the camera!! Pull out the tripod or hire a photographer to preserve today. Tomorrow we will all be one day older, and yesterday’s events will never reoccur exactly the same. And please, oh please, print those beautiful memories!
