The other day, Charlie told me, “When you grow up, maybe you can get a job like Dad.”
“I take care of you. That is my job, and I take pictures for people,” I replied.
“No, Mom, those aren’t jobs. Someday you’ll leave everyday and have an office.”
I was going to argue that I do have an office – it’s the other half of the toy room, but I realized this was not a battle I was going to win. 4 yr olds know best when it comes to the ways of the world. Shortly after, I got the camera out to take some shots of Oscar, our pug. Charlie got out his camera too – an old point-and-shoot. He followed me around snapping shots of Oscar and saying things like, “Good boy! You look great! Say cheese! I think I got the shot, Mom. The light is good here, right?” After Oscar got tired of being photographed, Charlie started taking selfies. He watched me take self portraits last week and decided he wanted to try some as well.
Our children may not always verbalize their appreciation, but they do admire us. We are their primary caretaker. We are there day in and day out. They watch everything we do and our attitude toward the world, and they learn from us.
“Hey Mom! I’m a photographer just like you!”
I love my job.

Just this past week, I discovered an amazing Project 52 group on Facebook. Check out My Four Hens Photography and, if you’re so inclined, join the Facebook group. So many inspiring photographs have been filling my news feed since I joined. (It is a closed group, so you’ll need to request to be added. You don’t need to be a professional photographer to join.) The theme for this week is pastel. An extremely hard theme for a mom surrounded by bright, bold colors and super heroes. Boys and pastel aren’t a natural mix – unless it’s Easter. However, we just so happened to have a bag of pastel colored marshmallows in the cupboard and a boy with beautiful, light blue eyes and pale skin. I just had to share this adorable photo shoot with you all! Kids are so cooperative when bribed with marshmallows.
